The education system in Denmark (summary)

Here, you can read a brief summary in Danish about the article on the education system in Denmark.

Compulsory education applies to all children ages 6/7 to 17, but there is no school requirement.

Public secondary school for grades 1-9 is the core of the education system, and is supplemented by free basic schools and after-school institutions. Kindergarten and 10th grade are voluntary.

After 9th/10th grade young people choose an educational aim that can be either upper secondary school or vocational training and lasts from 1.5 to 5 years.

After upper secondary school, it is possible to continue studying and pursue an academic bachelor's degree, a professional bachelor's degree or continuing studies (MVU). Another possibility is continuing studies requiring a shorter period of study (KVU).
